South Burlington's boys cross-country team opened the 2025 season with an outstanding performance at the Essex Invitational, turning cool temperatures and light rain into ideal racing conditions for fast times. The Varsity squad placed 5th overall in a highly competitive field behind CVU, Essex, BFA St. Albans, and Burlington, positioning themselves just a few points shy of a potential New England Championship qualifying slot. The JV team impressed as well, racing to an exceptional 3rd-place finish. Nearly every runner showed early-season strength, with major improvements from Jack Donovan, Asher Clifford, and Peter Lyon, among others. Several athletes also secured spots on the South Burlington all-time course records list for the Essex Tree Farm, led by Donovan (17:34), Cloutier (17:24), and freshman standout Jack Henry (17:48). The Varsity lineup was rounded out by Dan Jackson, Max Frostman, and Patrick Donoghue, while the JV squad's strong showing came from Orion Cooper, James Conway, James Channon, Spencer Leavey, Joe Jackson, Samuel Robinson, Sage Anderson, Leo Frank, Mason Soter, Noah Chan, Kellen Sullivan, Killian Allen, and Harrison Shangraw.
