South Burlington's boys cross-country team battled the elements at Thetford Academy, taking on Vermont's most demanding 5K course in unseasonably hot and dusty conditions. Known for its mud and chill, the course presented a new challenge this year with heat and airborne dust affecting runners' endurance and breathing. Despite that, the Wolfpack showed determination and resilience, with Joe Jackson, Max Frostman, and Jack Donovan all improving on their 2024 Thetford times, and several others posting faster 5Ks than their previous races at Manchester or Burlington. Jack Henry and Donovan also earned places on South Burlington's Thetford course records list, marking another strong showing as the team prepared to return for the State Championship later in the season. The team entered 33 runners across five seed groups, led by Dan Jackson, Jack Donovan, Jack Henry, and Odin Cloutier in the top seed, with Asher Clifford, Max Frostman, Orion Cooper, and Patrick Donoghue close behind, and a deep JV contingent that included Jackson Olesky, James Channon, James Conway, Joe Jackson, Peter Lyon, Ryan Bertges, Spencer Leavey, Chase Gurtman, Jonathan Collins, Mason Soter, Noah Chan, Sage Anderson, Samuel Robinson, Abdi Yusuf, Charlie Smith, Dave Lawrence, Harrison Shangraw, Johnny Gonzalez, Julien Berger, Kellen Sullivan, Killian Allen, Leo Frank, Michael Choueiri, and Vincent Cotto. Now in its 34th year, the Woods Trail Run draws runners from schools across Vermont and beyond, making it one of the state's largest and longest-running cross-country invitationals.
