South Burlington's boys cross-country team returned to the Essex Tree Farm for the Essex Invitational, racing a deep 16-team field to a 6th-place finish with 184 points. Junior Jack Donovan led the Wolves in 17:13, good for #4 on South Burlington's all-time 11th grade Essex list and #10 overall, while sophomore Jack Henry was right behind in 17:32 for #3 among 10th graders and #15 overall. Freshman Briar Parlante rounded out the top three in 18:23, the program's #4 all-time 9th grade mark at Essex and an overall honorable mention. Peter Lyon (19:05) and Joe Jackson (19:11) rounded out South Burlington's scoring five with personal bests and 11th grade honorable mentions, while sophomores Hayden Nahstoll (19:42) and Sam Robinson (19:47) added depth just behind, each collecting a 10th grade honorable mention of their own. Compared to last year's race at the same course, Henry improved by 16 seconds, Donovan by 21, Lyon by 36, Jackson by 2:14, and Robinson by a remarkable 3:02. The JV squad also turned in a strong, deep showing, led by Spencer Leavey in 20:18. It was a milestone day for the program's record books, and a promising sign heading into the heart of the season.
